William "Bill" Balding

Bill is a 1989 NROTC graduate from VPI&SU, he began his active-duty career at sea on USS John A. Moore (FFG 19) Long Beach, CA. as the Assistant Supply Officer. He served as the Aviation Support Officer at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Supply Department Head for USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) Sasebo, Japan, and Deputy Site Director for material at Naval Aviation Depot North Island, CA.

Leaving active duty in February 2001, he began a consulting career with Price Waterhouse Coopers and IBM working on Defense and Civil Government projects. In December 2006, he left IBM, pursuing a career in the civil service working at Defense Logistics Agency and most recently at the Maritime Administration one of many "modes,” within the Department of Transportation.

Bill affiliated with the Navy Reserve in the summer of 2001. His reserve tours include Commander Submarine Forces Atlantic, Navy Cargo Handling Battalion Ten, Naval Coastal Warfare Squadron Two Five, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Acquisition & Logistics Management, Defense Logistics Agency Joint Reserve Force, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command Expeditionary Training Group. His last assignment was with the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command located in Norfolk, VA.

Recalled to Active Duty twice supporting the GWOT; in October 2005, he mobilized being assigned as an Advisor to the Afghan National Army, as a member of Embedded Training Team 3 at the garrison of Pol-E-Charhki serving with the 53 rd Infantry Brigade of the Florida Army National Guard.

In May 2012 he mobilized to the Central Command’s Deployment and Distribution Operations Center as the Plans/Exercises and Foreign Military Sales officer at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

Awards include: Afghanistan Campaign and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medals, various unit/personal awards, and qualified as a Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer, Naval Aviation Supply Officer and Navy Expeditionary Supply Corps Officer.
